Midlife Musings: Navigating Self-Discovery and Growth with Vivian Gill
Feb 13, 2024Welcome! I am excited to have you in this space dedicated to your journey of self-improvement and growth.
As someone standing at life's midpoint, I am here as your guide, wearing different hats as a certified life coach, dynamic motivational speaker, and author. I'm also a registered nurse and an international trainer and presenter for Les Mills and a personal trainer specializing in women's health. I'm a wife, Mom to 4, and a grandmother to 1. I've had a hysterectomy, kept my ovaries, and have gone through menopause so I understand experientially. As a lifelong athlete, belly fat appeared out of nowhere. I presented an exercise program filmed for an international audience feeling my frumpiest with belly fat. I had so much support leading up to the filming so I could stay grounded with positive body image. I did an amazing job with the filming and I was truly comfortable in my body.
My life's mission revolves around the idea that transformation is a continuous process, not a singular event. Growing up in a small Tennessee town during the 1970s and 1980s, a time when the essence of wellness culture was powdered milk, the peace movement, and the Marlboro Man, I embraced a vegetarian lifestyle. Despite it not being on trend, I saw it as a conscious choice, challenging norms even when it wasn't the cultural standard. In essence, I've always been ahead of my time with healthy lifestyle choices. Really, the more things change, the more they stay the same with the basics of healthy living.
I’ve since continued to buck current trends: speaking out against intermittent fasting for midlife women, and embracing a life-long learning mindset versus quick diet fixes or hustling to achieve goals.
I’ve seen it all in my years in nursing, fitness, coaching and more and know that many of you are here because you’re overwhelmed by all the things. My hope and prayer is that by connecting with you here, we can shift our focus to transformation over information.
We are in a time of huge transitions: divorce, aging parents, empty nesters, and adult children have challenges in life. These transitions can lead to a "stress lifestyle" and contribute to that belly fat due to cortisol. I'm passionate about coaching women to embrace aging and now that they have more time to double down on self-care.
These “midlife musings” will offer insights into the triumphs, challenges, and the lessons learned from every stumble. It’s a place for us to grow, learn and be better together!
